Bristol University C: 0

Following a week with 41 players across three teams this week Minehead found themselves struggling to put three teams out this weekend. The 1st XI only managing a bare 11, to face a Bristol Uni side with 16 players.

Minehead, not worrying about the additional numbers Bristol had, started strongly and a number of decent attacks resulted in a penalty stoke being awarded. Another perfectly placed flick from Nick Hill saw the home side take the lead.

Continuing with the pressure Minehead soon doubled their lead, with some nice link up play from the front line and James Weetch slotting neatly away. Rob Speed would soon join the scorers and finished from range, Nick Jones trying to claim it, but all knew he was no-where near the ball.

Going into the break 3-0 up, Minehead knew the second half was going to be tough and that the next goal would need to count. The extra players of the Bristol side would make it a tough half, but Minehead were up for the challenge.

There were moments of decent in the second half and some bad challenges from both sides, Minehead dropping to 10 players twice as Nick Hill and Taylor Buller received green cards. Not helping the already tiring team.

However, a lovely flick from the back by Hill was picked up by Jos Bennett on the bounce turning and angling the ball to James Weetch, who in turn beat a couple of players, entering the D and placing the ball back to Jos Bennett to complete the move with an exquisite reverse stick chip into the goal from a tight angle with his back to the goal.

Not to be outdone by his younger brother Nick Bennett neatly finished off a short corner to take the game out of reach at 5-0. As the Minehead side continued to pressurise the away goal, a long ball into the D from the returning Shane Heale was picked up by Rob Speed who deflected into the top corner of the net, in what was surely the goal of the day, even eclipsing Bennett earlier finish.

Minehead remain top of the league and have now improved their goal difference to + 57. Keep up the good work lads. Special mention to our man of the match Mark Bolton whose performance yet again shone through, a real asset to the team.
