Match Report

Minehead A: 4

East Devon D: 0

With a winless run stretching back to mid-November Minehead A took the trip down to bottom side East Devon D looking for much needed points in a bid to secure their mid table ambitions. The home side started the stronger of the two teams, not giving off much impression that they were lower in the table and created plenty of chances early on with Minehead A struggling to cope.

A change in formation for the Seasiders saw them gain a bit more control and their passing game began to develop with John Clegg and Will Pring being instrumental in the middle. New boy Myles Jones worked hard up top and constantly held the ball up well as Minehead grew into the game. Lenient officiating meant that some fairly robust challenges by the home team went unpunished and neither team managed to make a dent on the scoreboard in the first half, which finished 0-0.

The away team started strongly in the second half, with a move originating with Mark Collins at last back eventually came to poacher Dylan Howell who tucked the ball away from a yard with a diving finish. Putting his body on the line again, Howell scored a carbon copy of the first with Minehead starting to run riot down the flanks.

A yellow card for a perturbed Alex Covey meant that the away team had to absorb some pressure from East Devon, but they came away unscathed before Howell completed his hat trick, with all three goals totalling at 4 yards. Covey’s strike was deflected into his own net by an East Devon defender to make it 4-0 to complete the scoring. Only a mild fracas between Andrew Speed and an East Devon attacker created the only action left as they both received yellows in what was in general an enjoyably competitive fixture.
